Happiness

We saw the fetal pole and heartbeat!

I think we are at 6w1d, and the fetal pole measures 4.21, which the doc says was right where it should be (and I confirmed on google!)

And then the heartbeat was 109 bpm. That sounded low to me, but he said they were looking for over 90 at this stage, so he thought it was good. Online, I've seen 100 as the low range for 6w, so I guess this is OK, but I definitely want to see it rise next week!

He wants me to come back for two more weeks and meanwhile, he told me to schedule an appointment with my OB for 3 weeks from now. It will be fun to make that call!

So I'm feeling good. But still nervous, of course. I'll have a few days of happiness, then a few days of dread before my next appointment. Next Thursday I need to fly to Boston for the day, so I hope they schedule me for Wednesday instead of Friday. Although maybe Friday would be better, since I'm nervous about flying, and it would be nice to go in right after...

But I'm happy. And I'm going to enjoy it for a while and really, really try to push the worry away!

  1. Congratulations! What fantastic news! I can imagine you looking at a copy of the ultrasound even as I type. There's your baby! I'm so happy for you both! Happiness, indeed.

  2. Changing subjects...about your friend with Stage 3 cancer. I have a good friend whose husband has brain cancer. Looking for any and every possible way to improve his prognosis, she read a book written by a doctor who himself had a brain tumor. He fully researched nutrition and its effect on cancer. It's a book about healthy eating and positive attitude. His results are amazing...and 15 years after his own diagnosis, he is living proof of his methods. I have read the book too, and it is full of useful information and citations backing up his statements. People with cancer are often looking to do something, anything they can, to better their odds. If you think your friend might be open to this, I highly recommend the book. I am incorporating the organic foods he recommends into my own diet in hopes of providing a healthy environment for a future pregnancy.

The book is "Anticancer, a New Way of Life" by David Servan-Schreiber, MD, PhD.

  3. That's wonderful!! I saw a doctor I don't particularly like at 6w3d and he found a heartbeat that was 105, but, he was "unsure" if it was mine or the babies. Um, my heartrate shouldn't be that high, so, I think you are right in range!
